"Dance of the Jellies":

Jelly fish mobilize themselves by expanding and contracting their umbrella shaped bodies.  This creates the undulating effect which makes them appear to dance through the water.  The background fabric for this piece is a wet cyanotype print, made by the artist, using masks to create the bodies of the jelly fish.  The wet cyanotype causes the interesting flow of color through the piece.  Dimensional seaweed leaves and fan coral are appliqued to the scene.

"Why did the Tiger Cross the River?"

There must have been some compelling reason for this tiger to swim across the river.  The expression in his eyes make it clear it is not his favorite thing to do. And yet, on he swims churning up water and disturbing the pond scum.  This piece is fused and machine applique, with heavy machine thread stitching on the tiger's fur.  Paint, tulle and plastic wrap provide parts of the reflection and the water splashes.

Africa’s Beauty The continent of Africa encompasses vast lands with endless diversity. From Botswana, which is dominated by the Kalahari Desert, to the Okavango Delta, one of the world's largest inland river deltas, South Africa contains some of the oldest archaeological and human-fossil sites in the world. Archaeologists have recovered extensive fossil remains from a series of caves in Gauteng Province. The area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been branded "the Cradle of Humankind”. Kenya has considerable land area devoted to wildlife habitats, including the Masai Mara, where blue wildebeest participate in a large-scale annual migration. The "Big Five" game animals of Africa, that is the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant, can be found in Kenya. Kilimanjaro is the fourth most topographically prominent peak on Earth.

Sea Creatures....not limited to "under the sea" !

Webster’s dictionary defines creatures:
  1.   A living being, especially an animal.
  2.   A human.
  3.   An imaginary or fantastical being
Sea "Creatures" do not have to be pictorial or even realistic.
Sea Creatures can be mystical, magical, based on Roman & Greek mythology
Birds fly over the ocean..they are sea creatures too, floating in the air and feeding off the ocean
Starfish and crustaceans live on the shoreline among the rocks and ocean waves
You are the artist, and it is your voice and your choice.
The Juror will be instructed that the exhibit is not limited to art work that
depicts an underwater experience
