"I've enjoyed art since I was a very young girl. I always knew I would do something in the art field. I was taught at a very young age by the women in my family to sew and enjoy all kinds of textile arts. As a young adult I was encouraged by my husband to learn how to quilt. I spent a few years making traditional quilts and gifting them to friends and family. I enjoyed that time period and learned many things, but quickly realized that I wanted to do more with fiber than traditional rules would allow. Thus began my journey into art quilting.
"My work is inspired by the world around me. My friends, family, music, movies, books and nature all make their way into my quilts. My work is an expression of how I see and feel my world. I don't strive to be realistic in my work. I'm much more interested in conveying a feeling or thought in my work. Most quilts begin from an idea or a photograph. They progress on to a full size drawing I then use as a pattern to decide colors, textures, and how to best assemble the quilt top. Though I start with a basic idea, I never limit where a quilt may go. Part of the joy of being an artist is giving in to the work and allowing things to flow naturally into something beautiful. You never know where something might lead and, in turn, push you along on your own artistic journey. "
