"I've always remembered the exact moment I wanted to be an artist. Outfitted with a brand new box of Crayolas, I was 4 1/2 years old in kindergarten drawing a mountain log cabin with a stream in front and lined with growing flowers. Presto! I knew I wanted to teach art for the rest of my life! I've never wavered since... After earning a BS degree in art and one in English, I taught high school art for 11 years before switching to English, which I still love teaching.

All my work arises from my fixation with looking intently at everything that is NOT man-made. I love trees and birds and the tiny things that grow up out of the earth or buzz around in the air or creep along a leaf. An artist doesn't have to go far for inspiration. Miniature dramas occur right under our feet in the grass we walk across every day. That always amazes and inspires me ."
