"After getting a degree in Costume Design I spent 34 years working as a linguist full time – with the deaf and second language learners - and doing fiber art only in stolen moments. Since I retired in 2006, I’ve gotten a boost of artistic energy and have been utilizing many of the new materials and techniques available to textile artists. Lots of surface design: painting, dyeing, screening, foiling, couching, etc., is now incorporated into my work. I’ve begun to work in series so that I can pursue themes of importance to me. The cave paintings of northern Spain and southern France are the subject of one such series. Pomegranates, which represent fecundity and come in the most amazing colors, are another subject I’ve been working with. And language, of course, is an ever-present theme. It is a joy to play in my studio and make art quilts. I can’t wait to see what opens next before me."
