The exhibit runs until November 3, and the museum is open 10-4 daily, except Mondays. Plus, don’t miss the Outdoor Quilt Show on October 5!

Road to California Artist Carla Wolf

"Dance of the Jellies":

Jelly fish mobilize themselves by expanding and contracting their umbrella shaped bodies.  This creates the undulating effect which makes them appear to dance through the water.  The background fabric for this piece is a wet cyanotype print, made by the artist, using masks to create the bodies of the jelly fish.  The wet cyanotype causes the interesting flow of color through the piece.  Dimensional seaweed leaves and fan coral are appliqued to the scene.

"Why did the Tiger Cross the River?"

There must have been some compelling reason for this tiger to swim across the river.  The expression in his eyes make it clear it is not his favorite thing to do. And yet, on he swims churning up water and disturbing the pond scum.  This piece is fused and machine applique, with heavy machine thread stitching on the tiger's fur.  Paint, tulle and plastic wrap provide parts of the reflection and the water splashes.
